Novacella Abbey: in the best crus of the Isarco Valley The Abbazia di Novacella company cultivates its grapes in the best crus of the Isarco Valley, where the microclimate is very particular. The Abbey has been producing wines since 1142 a tradition with ancient origins today combined with the most advanced technologies, an innate passion for wine and great professionalism contribute to the creation of wines with a strong personality, joyful and quality. In these places, the altitude, the cool climate and the soils rich in minerals allow the optimal development of the aromas and taste of the typical white wines of the area. The Novacella Abbey is located in the northernmost wine-growing area of Italy, the Isarco Valley, in South Tyrol. Campofreddo -Concura is the kingdom of Primitivo, a precious and ancient vineyard where arid cultivation is practiced due to the very scarce rainfall it can count on the consequent low yields generate reds with an amazing concentration of extract, a rich and complex structure that integrates with the soft tannins that characterize the best Primitivo. Troncarea and Mesola delle Volpi are the districts from which reds of high concentrations with sweet and fragrant fruit come to life. In the district of Li Marini the most fragrant white grapes are better suited, while in Monte la Conca structured and rather long-lived red wines are born based on Malvasia Nera grapes from Salento, Aglianico and Negroamaro. The vineyards branch off from the center of Manduria and arrive up to the Ionian coast in the southernmost part of the province of Taranto, spreading out into districts, areas that are geographically close to each other but which differ in terms of insolation, amount of rainfall and ventilation conditions. The vinification of Primitivo brings the best results, with the Primitivo di Manduria Riserva Concura which, according to the well-known critic Luca Maroni, wins the title of best red wine in Italy of 2019.
